One day two high school students (and best friends), Yuuki Miaka and Hongo Yui, discovered a mysterious book in a 'personel only' room located in the library. It was entitled "The Universe of the Four Gods." When the girls began to open the book, it began to glow with a red aura and the were taken out of there world and into the story---ancient China.

They appear in a field and were instantly in peril when two men come after them. Then Tamahome (really hot for a non-human!..heh) comes to the rescue. Oddly enough Yui is then taken back to reality and Miaka remains destined to fall in love with Tamahome. She is discovered by Hotohori who realizes that she is the Suzaku no Miko. Yui follows the story from her own time by reading the book becoming more and more jealous of Miaka because she begins to love Tonahome.

Yui is then taken back to ancient China and becomes Miaka's enemy hating her because she has Tomahome's love. She is also used by Nakago and becomes Seiryuu no Miko.

Through out the series love, pain, hate, lies, greed, goals and lies take you on an adventure that will cause Fushigi Yuugi to become one of your favorite anime. (It certainly is one of mine! ^_^)
