Unlike Mario's dream as the basis for Mario 2, Doki Doki Panic was a little cooler. Its storyline goes that two little kids were reading out of a book and the, this hairy green hand jumps out of the book and pulls the children in> Their pet monkey scampers off to find help and then a family arrives on the scene and jumps into the book to save the children.

The fast Papa was changed to Mario.
The high-jumping Mama was changed to Luigi. This is the first time that Luigi is depicted taller than Mario in a game.
The long-jumping sister was changed to Princess Toadstool.
The strong brother was changed to Toad.
